Thinking about the Dead’s “junior lyricist,” John Perry Barlow, who passed away last month. “Salt Lake City,” a wry salute to the desert capital, is his work. The song first appeared on Bobby’s 1978 solo album Heaven Help the Fool. He played it with various side projects, but the Grateful Dead only did it once: in Salt Lake City, on February 21, 1995. That concert is the 1995 entry in the massive boxed set 30 Trips Around the Sun.

Enjoy!
