Hi, if only the rest of the world knew what they are missing. There is nothing like the Grateful Dead. If more people would realize that this would be a much better place to live. Great marithon, great music, thank you for a GRATEFUL DAY! We should do this more often! You guys look like your having a great time! [dancing in the loby]. Greetings from New York City…
    peace to all

On a rare visit to Berkeley, with the old radio walkman dusted off, I wandered the wet streets under an umbrella and many layers of raingear listening to the annual Grateful Dead marathon… and enjoying it as always! On this ramble through the rain I found myself in front of the KPFA building, knocked on the window to get buzzed in at the door and am greeted by a fine staff who set me down to be a telephone volunteer. On the way in I peek through the door into the source room of the broadcasted sounds to see a smiling David Gans at the mic while NFA was cranked.
With only an hour to spare, I met some great folks, found out what it’s like to be on the other end of the pledge line, and even a birthday party broke out. I highly recommend the phone volunteer experience. It was fun to be at ground zero of Dead to the World!
I always enjoy the spirit of these GD marathons, and have caught a good portion of them over the past 2 decades. Thanks David, KPFA, the GD, and all, for the involvement!

Yep, it was fairly serendipitous. And after grabbing a bite at the South Indian restaurant on the corner that turned out to be on the same block as the station.
Next time I’ll try to make it an actual plan!
