HEADED FOR THE HILLS

Jim Lauderdale is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter who is well known in both country and bluegrass circles. His songs have been recorded by lots of major artists in both genres. He’s also been collaborating with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter for several years; you’ll find out how that partnership began in this two-part interview (which concludes next week, along with the end of set 1 of 11/14/73).

All of the songs in part 2 of this show were written by Hunter and Lauderdale. Headed for the Hills is a full CD of Hunter-Lauderdale songs, and Jim reveals in the interview that the two are writing together again and he hopes there will be another album to come.

Music Farmers: the spirit of Magnolia Music

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

From jambands.com:

Sowing The Seeds Of Americana

As we previously reported, a new documentary film, Music Farmers: Sowing The Seeds Of Americana chronicles the festival experience at Suwannee Springfest and MagnoliaFest. The film will be broadcast on Florida PBS stations during January, with a nationwide roll out in March. The film features interviews, music, and performances by Bela Fleck, Peter Rowan & Tony Rice, the Duhks, Donna the Buffalo, Jim Lauderdale, the late Vassar Clements, and many others. Impatient viewers (and those looking to score holiday gifts) can purchase the DVD via www.magmusic.com.

And from Randy Judy at Magnolia Music:

Florida Station Carriage as of 12/18/06

WEDU Tampa – Sunday, January 7 @ 7pm
WPBT Miami – Thursday, January 4 @ 11pm
WMFE Orlando – Thursday, January 25 @ 10pm

WSRE Pensacola – Sunday, January 7 @ 6pm
WFSU Tallahassee – Wednesday, January 3 @ 9pm
WUFT Gainesville – Wednesday, January 3 @ 9pm
WFSG Panama City – Wednesday, January 3 @ 8pm

The Suwannee SpringFest and MagnoliaFest are my favorite gigs every year. A beautiful spot for a campout, a wonderful vibe in the audience and onstage, awesome music every time – whats not to love?

The lineup for next March’s SpringFest is still being finalized, but so far we have Jorma Kaukonen, Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks, Ollabelle, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Will Kimbrough, and lots more, along with regulars Donna the Buffalo, The Duhks, Joe Craven, Peter Rowan and Tony Rice, Dread Clampitt, Jim Lauderdale, Crooked Still – and me! And more. The lineup is posted (and updated) here. SpringFest is March 22-25, 2006.
