I received notice this week that KDHX St Louis has dropped the GD Hour. Very sorry to lose a longtime affiliate and an excellent community radio station.

I was on their website the other day. Much of their music programming got canned. It looks like the “political” class has taken over at KDHX. Similiar coupe de’ tats have been tried in Berkeley too. You know better than I do, that some people would rarther hear politicking on KPFA 24/7/365.
And thats what happens; when people don’t bother to fill out those ballots that came in the US Mail. The right combination of radicals will pull the plug on Dead To The world no matter how much $$$ you made during those 16 hour marathon for better than 20 years.
The same thing happened to the failing NPR affiliate around Santa Cruz too. Now they have competing stations fighting over their listeners donations and playing the same stuff as KQED in 4 channel stereo. That suburban market isn’t big enough to support this wasteful simulcast…
No huge surprise. But St. Louis fans of the Grateful Dead won’t miss it for too long. St. Louisans as a matter of course don’t fight too vigorously in defense of keeping traditions alive when they’re in danger of being killed off (Democracy Now!, the Side Door, Whiz Bam Video) so this is nothing new.
