The excerpts from the new complete-show release To Terrapin in this week’s program don’t do justice to the excellence of the performance. You gotta hear this second set! Last show of a very long and productive spring tour introducing several songs recorded for Terrapin Station, including the title track and “Estimated Prophet,” both instant classics.

Jorma Kaukonen performed “Operator” in a wonderful two-day GD tribute, The American Beauty Project, that took place in New York City in January of 2007. (Read my report here.) It was a perfect match of performer and song, and Jorma obviously agreed because he has kept the song in his repertoire ever since. And now here’s a fine studio recording of “Operator.”

I raved about the recordings of Railroad Earth‘s New Year’s run a few weeks ago. “Warhead Boogie” is from the 12/31/08 show. All three of the year-end shows are great, and available for download. This band continues to deliver the goods – check ’em out!

Support for the Grateful Dead Hour comes this week from Grateful Dead Productions, announcing a full show release titled To Terrapin: Hartford May 28, 1977, the complete concert mastered in HDCD from the original two-track reels. To Terrapin documents the final show of the much-praised spring tour. It’s available April 7. More information, audio samples, discussion board and more at dead.net
