Last week we lost a crazy sweet man, saxophonist Martin Fierro. Blair Jackson posted an obit on DeadNet, and tonight I’m playing some of his music for you. Thanks to Charlie Miller for his assistance with the selections.

Fran Harris mentioned that there’s a nice collection of photos on Martin’s web site.

Let It Grow – Grateful Dead, Wake of the Flood

Martin played on this studio track, and blows a fine solo!

They slowed down Friend of the Devil around late 73 or in early 74 too. There is a half speed version on one of those later Winterland runs if I remember right. It’s neither the original bluegrass style or the final slow ballad that Jerry adopted for good later on…

    Great montage David!

I can’t wait to hear this set of CDs. I have these shows in various form, and listened, to them for awhile. That being said there is nothing like something to hold onto. Artwork, essays…and good ole Grateful Dead.

Keep blowing Martin, you will be missed.

    Sam
