Gig update

Greetings!

I was reminded recently that it’s been quite a while since I last sent out a gig announcement. I have been waiting for the release date of my new CD to be set, but it keeps being delayed. If all goes well, it’ll be ready in mid-July.

The CD is called The Ones That Look the Weirdest Taste the Best – a line from a song called “The Bounty of the County” that I wrote last fall in collaboration with my wife, Rita Hurault. It’s all about shopping at the Farmers’ Market – specifically the Grand Lake Farmers’ Market in Oakland, around Labor Day. We’re hoping to write another song or three about the other seasons, but these things take time.

The new CD was recorded in New Jersey in two sets of sessions last year. It was produced by Tim Carbone, violinist of Railroad Earth (whose new CD Amen Corner is great), with his bandmates John Skehan, Andy Goessling, and Johnny Grubb, along with several other giants of the New Jersey music scene, playing on ten of the eleven tracks. “The Bounty of the County” was recorded in San Francisco with Tim Carbone on fiddle, Zac Matthews of Hot Buttered Rum on mandolin and vocals, and Paul Knight on bass.

You can hear “The Bounty of the County” (and maybe even buy it online) at reverbnation.com/davidgans – and while you’re visiting that site, I’d appreciate it if you’d sign up for the mailing list there by clicking on the “Become a Fan” and/or “Join Street Team” buttons below my picture in the upper left of the home page. The database there keeps track of ZIP codes, so eventually I’ll be able to target these emails so you won’t have to read announcements about shows that are happening far away from where you are.

The aforementioned Paul Knight is also the bassist of Rubber Souldiers, a “Beatle jam band” with Chris Rowan, Lorin Rowan, and me. Rubber Souldiers play the Iron Springs brew pub in Fairfax CA Wednesday, July 23. (The one gig Paul couldn’t do, we had the best of all possible ringers for this band: Ratdog bassist Robin Sylvester.)

I’ve got a great new generic tour poster (see it here) by Roy Schneider, a Florida singer-songwriter who recently retired his daily comic strip “The Humble Stumble.” Roy’s new CD is Roy Schneider and the Roadside Turtle Rescue.

The summer festival season is about to commence. I’ll be filling in some dates here and there with club gigs – the latest is always posted at dgans.com/gigs.html

I am planning house concerts in Tallahassee and Atlanta the weekend before MagnoliaFest; details will be posted soon. I’m always on the lookout for house concert opportunities – see concertsinyourhome.com for information on this excellent development. House concerts are much better for the music than a lot of other venues guys like me play. If you’d like to host one, get in touch!

You’ll also find PDFs of some gig posters linked on my gigs page; if you can print ’em and post ’em I’d sure appreciate it. Also, please tell your friends and colleagues about my performances. Word of mouth is everything in this business.
