Not long ago I was watching a old episode of The Ed Sullivan Show on one of the nostalgia channels, and I saw the Rolling Stones doing “Lett’s Spend the Night Together” – and because it was the mid-’60s and our culture was still fairly early in the process of loosening up, Mick Jagger was forced to sing “Let’s Spend Some Time Together.” You should have seen the look on his face! Anyway, this lively performance is from GarciaLive volume 13, recorded in Illinois on September 16, 1989 and featuring the JGB joined by the amazing Clarence Clemons (Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band) on saxophone! GarciaLive 13 is available now from garciafamilyprovisions.com.

I’ve been working with the Barton Hills Choir for a few years now. I contributed some guitar and singing to Dead Songs volume 2, including this lovely “Uncle John’s Band” – which also features percussion by Rob Koritz of the Dark Star Orchestra. Here’s the video for that one. And just this month, choir director Gavin Tabone put together a video of “Ripple” from parts we recorded separately. Check it out here! You can find out more about the BHC (and see more videos) online at bartonhillschoir.org
