Hartman Envelope Filter – AUCTION IS CLOSED

Monday, February 7th, 2011

Attention guitar players!

Theo Hartman has donated three units of his excellent envelope filter, developed in consultation with Mark Karan (Ratdog, Jemimah Puddleduck). UPDATE: Mark Karan will autograph these units for the winning bidders!

From the product information press release:

Inspired by one of the great envelope filter pedals of the 1970’s and developed with guitarist Mark Karan (Delaney Bramlett, Bob Weir & Ratdog, Jemimah Puddleduck) the Hartman Envelope Filter is a recreation of a classic effect optimized for tone, flexibility, and ease-of-use….

“Mark wanted a pedal with a certain tone, range, and feel that he could switch fluidly among its settings via a simple user interface, and of course, analog.” says Hartman. “I was intrigued by the idea of tailoring a faithful recreation of the old Mutron to his requirements, so we set to work. The result is a beautifully voiced, touch-sensitive musical effect that preserves the raw immediacy of first-generation analog.”

The Hartman Envelope Filter employs select, low-noise components and an optically controlled state-variable filter for authentic timbre and response. A second footswitch permits change of filter sweep direction for on-the-fly access to a broad palette of classic filter sounds from funky chirps and saturated quacks to subtler flute-like attacks and horn-tones. An active Mix control blends filtered and unfiltered signal. Factory preset internal trim pots permit additional tuning of filter voice and action.

The street price of the Hartman envelope filter is $239.

THIS AUCTION IS CLOSED!

One of our favorite Oakland restaurants, Bocanova, has donated a $100 gift certificate for our auction.

Bocanova, located in Jack London Square at 55 Webster Street, Oakland, offers “Pan-American cuisine … the blending of culinary currents from Europe and the Americas while using the best and freshest local ingredients,” according to Executive Chef Rick Hackett. My wife and I have dined there many times since it opened on September 1, 2009, and everyone we have sent there has given us very enthusiastic reports of their meals.

Here’s an article from the New York Times that mentions Bocanova (along with two other Oakland favorites, Camino and Boot and Shoe Service). And here’s a review from the East Bay Express.

The gift certificate is worth $100, and I would like to start the bidding at $100, please. Post your bids in the comments section below, and don’t forget to check back often to make sure you remain the top bidder! Bidding will end at noon PST on Friday, February 18.

Proceeds from this auction will go to KPFA listener-sponsored radio as part of our annual 16-hour Grateful Dead fund-raising marathon. Details on the marathon – including the online channels through which it will be webcast – can be found here.
